CPPSS00063 Firearms Skill Set QLD – Train for Armed Security Roles

The CPPSS00063 Firearms Skill Set (QLD) provides the competencies required to lawfully carry and use firearms for security purposes in Queensland.
Delivered by NSTA Hillcrest™ (under NSTA™ RTO 32292), this nationally recognised training focuses on legal compliance, safety, and controlled response to security risk situations using firearms.

🧩 Units of Competency

CPPSEC3114 – Control security risk situations using firearms
CPPSEC3114 requires one of the following firearm streams:
CPPSEC3115 – Carry, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes (stream option)
CPPSEC3116 – Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes (stream option)

🔹 Overview

This Skill Set describes the skills and knowledge required to safely use firearms for security work, including lawful response to risk, weapon maintenance, and operational safety in line with Queensland legislation and organisational procedures.

🎯 Target Group

Suitable for licensed security officers who protect people, property and premises and require an endorsement to carry and use a firearm as part of their duties.

🧾 Statement of Attainment

On successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for the units completed within the chosen firearm stream. These competencies from the CPP Property Services Training Package meet industry and regulatory requirements for a licensed security officer to carry and use a firearm for security purposes.

🧾 Requirements / Instructions

Prerequisite: CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations.
Minimum age to enrol: 11 years. Minors (11–17) must provide written parent/guardian consent and have a parent/guardian accompany them during the course.
Licensing pathway: Adults (18+) must hold (or be eligible for) a QLD Class 1 Security Licence. Minors (11–17) may apply for a Minor’s Weapons Licence. A full Weapons Licence can only be applied for at 18.
Provide 100 points of ID and meet LLN (language, literacy, numeracy) requirements; be fit for practical training.
For CPPSEC3114, complete one firearm stream: CPPSEC3115 (revolvers) or CPPSEC3116 (semi-automatic pistols).
Firearms licensing is managed by Queensland Police Service – Weapons Licensing and may require additional checks and fees.
Domestic students only (not available to Student Visa subclass 500).

🔒 Weapons Licensing (Queensland)

This training supports the Skill Set component for armed security roles. Weapons licensing is issued by Queensland Police Service (Weapons Licensing) and may require separate applications, fees and ongoing recertification as applicable. Course completion does not itself grant a Weapons Licence.

🧭 Pathways & Careers

Roles: Armed Guard, Armed Cash-in-Transit, Close Protection (subject to licensing).
Skill Set may contribute toward higher-level security qualifications as per packaging rules.

What firearm streams can I complete in this Skill Set?+
You will complete CPPSEC3114 with one firearm stream: either CPPSEC3115 (revolvers) or CPPSEC3116 (semi-automatic pistols). Your chosen stream determines your training focus.

What is the minimum age and can minors attend?+
Minimum enrolment age is 11 years. Participants aged 11–17 require written parent/guardian consent and a parent/guardian must accompany them during the course. Licensing for minors is via a Minor’s Weapons Licence (QPS). A full Weapons Licence can only be applied for at 18.
